I love the Saturday market at the Ferry Building in San Francisco. Outside is a veritable explosion of street traders selling all kinds of things, nearer to the building are a number of outdoor restaurants. Some years ago the Ferry Building was converted from a… well, a ferry building to an incredible indoor market with all kinds of mostly food and beverage stores and cafes where you can get essentials like truffle salt and everything from vegan baked goods (Mariposa) to specialty wines, candles and mushrooms. If you carry on out the other side, the bay side, you can choose from a number of great cafes serving Vietnamese (Slanting Door), sushi, and Mexican ( Mijita), and a number of coffee shops, some with seats outside so you can watch the ferries come and go on the bay. On Saturdays there is a fantastic farmer’s market outside, probably the most picturesque in the world with the Bay Bridge in the distance, selling great organic produce from local farms.
