Everyone wants to go to ‘The Beach’. Leonardo Dicaprio has a lot to answer for. Because when you actually go to ‘the beach’, which is called Maya beach and is on the small island of Ko Phi Phi Le in the Andaman sea off Thailand, everyone and their granny is there. Thousands of boats, along with our own, were moored in the still translucent water of this incredible bay, people swimming and snorkeling, it’s like a huge, neverending festival to the movie. Further back, on land is a park in which the high tide line is marked, showing how high the water rose after the tsunami.
